Bafford, Heher Highlight Railey's 100th Victory at Stevenson, 14-13 Over Arcadia

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's lacrosse junior Carli Bafford totaled six points on four goals and two assists while sophomore Brady Heher finished with four goals as the Mustangs posted a 14-13 victory over Arcadia Saturday afternoon at Mustang Stadium.

The win is the 100th for head coach Kathy Railey in nine-plus seasons with the Mustangs (7-6, 3-1 MAC). Railey, who ranks in the top-20 in career wins, owns a 164-104 career record in 15-plus seasons as a head coach.

Led by two goals from Bafford, Stevenson scored the first three goals of the game in the opening six minutes before the Knights (9-4, 2-3 MAC) responded with four-straight by four different goal scorers.

Sophomore Olivia Monteiro would assist on the next two goals to give the hosts a one goal lead before the teams traded the final three goals to go into the break tied at 6-6. The Mustangs assisted on four of their six goals compared to just one for Arcadia.

The second half was a game of runs as each team scored twice in the opening eight minutes before Stevenson scored six of the next seven goals to take a 14-9 lead with 13:22 remaining.

But the Knights would respond with four-straight goals, including three by Dawn Faranetta who totaled a game-high five. Arcadia cut the deficit to just one, 14-13 with 3:09 remaining, but the Mustangs defense held the Knights to just one shot, which was saved by junior Maggie Lawder.

Monteiro finished with four points on one goal and three assists while adding three ground balls, three draw controls and a game-high two caused turnovers. Meanwhile, senior Kathryn Merrick totaled two goals, and a game-high six draw controls.

Lawder earned her first win of the season and second of her career after stopping a game saving shot late in the second half.

The duo of Faranetta and Adeline Bellesheim recorded 11 of Arcadia's six points as Bellesheim finished with four goals and one assist.

The Mustangs, who finished 5-for-10 on free-position attempts, held a 27-19 advantage in shots and a 15-13 margin in draw controls.

Stevenson looks to tie its season-best four game win streak on Wednesday, April 15 when the Mustangs host Alvernia in a Commonwealth Conference contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
