Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's lacrosse senior Billy Burgoyne totaled four goals and one assist while junior Stephen Banick added three goals and two assists to lead the seventh-ranked Mustangs to an 18-7 victory over Albright in a Commonwealth Conference contest Saturday night at Mustang Stadium.
Stevenson (6-3, 2-0) improved its record to 20-0 in three seasons in the Commonwealth Conference, outscoring its opponents, 326-79.
Saturday's game was a rematch of last year's conference championship game in which the Mustangs won 11-10. Burgoyne and Banick also led the team in that game as each posted two goals and one assist.
Tonight, Burgoyne and Banick each scored first-quarter goals as Stevenson jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The team also netted six second-quarter tallies with Banick adding two more while picking up an assist on the first goal of the season for sophomore Tyler Fuhrman.
The Mustangs led 12-3 at the half after scoring four goals in the final 1:23 of the second, including three in the final minute and the last two just nine seconds apart by Banick and junior Dylan Muti.
Albright leading scorer T.J. Holston stopped a 5-0 Stevenson run with the first of his three goals with 11:50 left in the third quarter, but senior Sam Wyatt netted his first goal of the season just seven seconds later after winning the faceoff to put the Mustangs back in front by 10.
Burgoyne scored two of Stevenson's final four goals, the last of which was assisted by Banick to provide the final with 4:58 to play in the fourth quarter.
The Mustangs outshot the Lions 46-27 and won 16-of-26 faceoffs while scoring on 4-of-6 extra-man opportunities. Wyatt and senior Justin Buonomo were both 8-of-12 at the faceoff circle.
Junior Ben Richards had four saves in just over 53 minutes before junior Connor Skeen saw his first action of the season, making two saves the rest of the way.
Holston led Albright (6-2, 1-1 MAC), who was receiving votes in this week's USILA Division III poll, with three goals and one assist. Nicholas Pisko made two first quarter saves while allowing 12 goals before Ryan Aler made four saves and allowed six goals over the final 30 minutes.
Stevenson returns to action next Saturday, April 4 when it hosts No. 8 Lynchburg at Mustang Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
