Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - Sophomore Naomi Fields drove in the game-winning run for an extra-inning walk-off victory as the Stevenson softball team snapped its four-game losing streak to finish its nine-game Florida road trip Friday afternoon at the National Training Center.
The Mustangs (3-6) dropped the day's opening game to St. Lawrence, 6-3, before posting its second nine-inning win this season with a 5-4 victory over in-state rival McDaniel.
Trailing 1-0 entering the fifth inning in game one versus the Saints (5-5), Stevenson used a three-run inning to take a 3-1 lead. Freshman Kate Finnen singled up the middle to score junior Kristen Mueller from second to tie the game at 1-1.
An error by the St. Lawrence catcher allowed senior Abbey DeFeo to score from third while advancing sophomore Nicole Dell to third. Dell would score on a single by junior Kaitlyn Seger to give the Mustangs a three run lead.
The Saints however responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning all unearned and coming with two outs. Stevenson totaled just one hit over the final two innings.
Finnen was 2-for-3 with one RBI while junior Emily Soller finished 2-for-4.
After falling behind 2-1 against the Green Terror (8-5), the Mustangs totaled two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Seger tripled to right center to score senior Stephanie Ayres before a groundout by sophomore Naomi Fields scored Seger.
In the top of the ninth, McDaniel advanced the go-ahead run to third base before Olivia Kipe hit a double on a 2-2 count to give the Green Terror a 4-3 lead.
Ayres reached on a throwing error to start the bottom of the ninth, scoring freshman Tiffany McKee from second. Ayres also advanced to third on the error. With one out, Fields singled to first base to score Ayres for the game-winning run.
Freshman Jasmyn Ogletree earned the win allowing no earned runs on five hits.
Stevenson hosts its home opener on Wednesday, March 25 when the Mustangs host a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader versus Arcadia beginning at 3:00 p.m.
