Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - Junior Tiffany Kahl hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3-3, before classmate Kaitlyn Seger hit her first career home run, a walk-off in the ninth inning, as the Stevenson softball team split two games Sunday afternoon at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida.
The Mustangs (2-2) fell to Transylvania, 11-7, in game one before taking a 6-4 nine-inning victory over Bethel (Minn.). In the team's first four games this season, they have given up 14.5 runs in its losses compared to just 4.0 runs per game in the wins.
In game one, the Pioneers (4-7) scored three first inning runs, including two on wild pitches. Transylvania would score three runs in the game on wild pitches.
Stevenson responded with a run in the bottom of the inning as freshman Kate Finnen registered her first career hit, an RBI double to left field.
Trailing 9-3 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Mustangs would score three unearned runs to cut their deficit to just three runs. Stevenson would add a sixth inning run on a second double by Finnen but the Pioneers scored twice in the seventh.
Finnen finished the game 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs. Kahl and senior Stephanie Ayres combined to go 4-for-6 with three runs and one RBI.
With the Royals leading 3-2 in game two, the Mustangs were able to draw three walks to load the bases. Kahl was able to score the runner from third with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Bethel (Minn.) was able to go ahead in the top of the eighth but the Mustangs responded in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by freshman Sabrina Gordon to score senior Abbey DeFeo from third.
In her 218th career at bat, Seger hit a walk-off home run, just her eighth extra-base hit, to extend her hitting streak to three games.
Freshman Jasmyn Ogletree earned her second win after pitching the final five innings and allowing no earned runs while striking out four batters.
Stevenson continues its 10-game Florida road trip on Tuesday, March 17 when the Mustangs face St. Thomas (Minn.) at 11:00 a.m. before taking on Minot State beginning at 1:00 p.m.
