Gordon, Hoyt Lead Mustangs in Season Opening Split in Florida

Box Score 1

CLERMONT, Fla. - The trio of freshmen Sabrina Gordon and juniors Emily Soller and Tiffany Kahl all totaled three hits as the Stevenson softball team split its two games to open the 2015 season, falling to Marian (Minn.) before defeating Babson Saturday morning at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida.

The Mustangs (1-1), who fell 18-4 to the Knights and defeated the Beavers, 5-4, totaled 21 hits on the day, nine RBIs and four extra-base hits.

In the opening game, Marian (6-3) scored nine unanswered runs in the first four innings before a two-RBI single by sophomore Nicole Dell got Stevenson on the board in the bottom of the fourth.

The Knights bats stayed alive in the top of the fifth as they totaled nine runs on six hits and one error.

Gordon and classmate Jasmyn Ogletree each totaled their first career hits.

The Beavers (1-1) had an early 1-0 lead in game two as Maya Lacy earned a lead-off walk before scoring on a fielders choice two batters later.

Junior Kristen Mueller got Stevenson on the board in the third inning as her double scored Gordon from second. Just two batters later, junior Molly Hoyt registered a sacrifice fly to score Mueller and give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Gordon registered a double, which scored junior Kaitlyn Seger and sophomore Jenna Fiamingo to give Stevenson a three run advantage. Gordon went 3-for-6 with two RBIs, a run and a stolen base in the two games.

Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Babson scored back-to-back runs with two outs on a bases loaded walk and hit by pitch to get within one. But the next batter lined out to left field to give the Mustangs their first win of the season.

In her first career start, Ogletree allowed just two earned runs on four hits while striking out one batter.

Hoyt finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Soller also went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Stevenson continues its 10-game Florida road trip on Sunday, March 15 when the Mustangs face Transylvania at 11:00 a.m. before taking on Bethel (Minn.) beginning at 3:00 p.m.
