Box Score UNION, N.J. - Stevenson men's volleyball senior David Moler totaled 28 assists and five digs to lead a balanced offensive attack as the Mustangs posted their third win over a top-10 opponent in the last four matches with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-20 victory over No. 9 Rivier Friday at Kean's Harwood Arena.
Stevenson (4-3), who has posted nine top-10 victories in the last three seasons, totaled 22 blocks to limit the Raiders to a .149 hitting percentage.
Led by senior Kyle Wisner, the Mustangs jumped out to a 10-4 lead the first set before Rivier cut the deficit to 13-11.
Stevenson won the first set on a kill by junior Patrick Schuyler after the Raiders had pulled within 23-20. Moler totaled 12 assists and three digs in the opening frame.
Rivier took an early 7-5 lead in the second set before the Mustangs rallied to tie the set at 9-9.
Stevenson began to pull away on a block by Wisner that led to a Raiders timeout. The surge continued as the Mustangs took a 20-13 lead before Schuyler also ended the second set with a kill to give Stevenson a commanding 2-0 lead.
The start of the third set was back-and-forth, tied at 6-6 before the Mustangs took a one-point lead, 19-18. Back-to-back point have Stevenson a 21-18 advantage before a kill by Schuyler and a Raider attack error gave the Mustangs the victory and three-set sweep.
Wisner finished with eight kills and five block assists while Schuyler added seven kills and five digs. Senior Wes Richardson also had seven kills to go along with four blocks. Sophomore Nate Ellis had seven total blocks.
Mike Markuson led Rivier (4-2) with 14 Kills and nine digs.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday at the Clash at Kean against No. 3 Springfield and Lasell.
