Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's volleyball senior Kyle Wisner totaled 12 kills and the Mustangs posted a .372 hitting percentage while limiting Cairn to .156 as they won their second-straight Continental Volleyball Conference contest, 25-12, 25-18, 25-20 Friday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
Stevenson (6-5, 2-0 CVC), who has won 11 of its last 13 CVC matches, has now won two-straight at home and is 18-6 in OMG since the 2013 season.
The Mustangs, who trailed just twice in the entire match, jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the first set and never looked back, scoring 17 of the final 26 points for the 13-point victory. Stevenson totaled 14 kills, including five from Wisner and three from junior Patrick Schuyler. Freshman Alex Klunk had two kills and two blocks.
Stevenson posted a .324 hitting percentage while the Highlanders (7-7, 0-3 CVC) hit minus-.031 with eight kills and nine errors on 32 attempts.
Wisner and Schuyler combined for seven kills in the second set as the Mustangs broke open an 11-11 tie with a 14-7 run to take a 2-0 lead. Senior David Moler had 13 assists and five digs in the set while Stevenson totaled a .314 hitting percentage with 27 kills and just errors on 70 attempts through two.
The third set was tied at 6-6 before the Mustangs edged out to a 13-10 lead on a kill from Schuyler. A quick 5-1 spurt gave them their largest lead at 18-12 before kills by Wisner, Klunk, Schuyler and sophomore Michael Fehrs held off a late Cairn rally to give Stevenson its fifth sweep in six wins this season.
Schuyler finished with eight kills and three digs while Klunk added seven kills and five block assists. Over his last two matches, Klunk his hitting .476 with 11 kills and 12 total blocks. Junior Kyle Pottieger had five kills and five digs while senior Wes Richardson had five kills and two block assists. Moler finished with 38 assists.
Josiah Buss led Cairn with 11 kills and a match-high 13 digs, 10 of which came in the first set. Randall Colson had 12 kills while Alex Lower totaled 34 assists and seven digs.
Stevenson has the next seven days off before returning to action against No. 4 Juniata next Friday, February 20 at Owings Mills Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
