HAVERFORD, Pa. – Sophomore Kristen Brooks totaled 24 kills and 16 digs as the Stevenson women's volleyball team defeated Widener 25-17, 25-23, 25-9 in the season opener before falling to Susquehanna 25-20, 12-25, 23-25, 21-25 Saturday at the Haverford Invitational.
The Mustangs (1-1) dropped just their 11th match in the past four seasons. Meanwhile, the win marked the 196th career victory for head coach Dave Trumbo.
In the opener versus the Pride (0-2), Brooks totaled a match-high 11 kills while senior Samantha Perillo and freshman Deanna Bradbury each had a team-high 10 digs. Sophomore Kelsey Stave tied her career-high with three blocks a feat she accomplished three times last season.
Sophomore Sara Bollinger totaled 28 assists while junior Kara Anderson and freshman Annika Schwartz finished with two service aces. The Pride's Victoria Miller finished with a game-high 15 digs.
Versus the Crusaders (2-0), Stevenson totaled their lowest single non-fifth set point total with 12 in game two. The last time the Mustangs scored 12 points or less was on October 9, 2010 when they dropped the second set 25-11 to FDU-Florham.
Schwartz posted her first career double double in just her second match, totaling 15 kills and 13 digs. Brooks also posted a double double with 13 kills and 10 digs. Bollinger finished with a career-high 39 assists while Perillo totaled a game-high 26 digs.
Susquehanna was led by Erin Byrne was totaled 12 kills and Sarah Paluck who finished with 22 digs.
Stevenson will face host Haverford in the Haverford Invitational on Sunday, August 31 beginning at 10:00 a.m. before taking on UMass Boston at 2:00 p.m.
