TOWSON, Md. - Sophomore Conrad Ellis and senior Anthony Carle posted wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, but it wasn't enough as the Stevenson men's tennis team fell to local rival Goucher Sunday 6-3 in the Mustangs' first match of the spring season.
The loss marks the third-straight for Stevenson (1-2) in the series against the Gophers after posting a 7-2 victory at home back on Apr. 29, 2011.
Both Ellis and Carle lost the first set before coming back to win the final two. At No. 3 singles, Ellis defeated Chad Resnik 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 while Carle defeated John Bescoby 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
The only other Mustang victory came at No. 2 doubles where sophomores Robbie Baker and James Bishoff took down Goucher's Midori Fujitani and William Felinski in their first match of the season together, 8-6.
Stevenson returns to action on Monday, March 17 when it hosts a non-conference contest with Elizabethtown on the Greenspring campus beginning at 3:30 p.m.
