Box Score 2 FREDERICK, Md. - Led by four homeruns by four different players for Hood, the Blazers defeated the Stevenson softball team in game one of the first Commonwealth Conference contest for both teams, 6-5, before the Mustangs held on for a 7-6 victory in game two Saturday afternoon at Hood Softball Field.
The Mustangs (7-6, 1-1 MAC) hit a season-high two homeruns in the second game, their first multi-home run game since Apr. 25, 2012.
In game one, both teams scored a first-inning run before Stevenson scored three runs on four hits in the second, including a two RBI single by sophomore Kaitlyn Seger.
The Blazers (9-5, 1-1 MAC) however, would score five-straight runs including three home runs in the seventh and eighth innings combined. Carly Farr hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to tie the game before Katie Jenkins and Laura Lokey added their first long ball of the year to give Hood a 6-4 lead in the eighth.
With the Mustangs trailing by two with one out in the bottom of the eighth, Molly Hoyt hit an RBI single through the left side, but Stevenson left two on base after two-straight outs.
Senior Kristen Fassler had a team-high two hits as the team had eight different players record a hit. The Blazers had three different players total two hits.
In game two, Stevenson totaled all seven of its runs in the first two innings, as sophomore Tiffany Kahl hit a two-run homer to left center in the first before junior Abbey DeFeo hit her first career home run to spark a five-run second inning.
In the fourth inning, senior Brianna Dieter made back-to-back off-balance catches, the first a catch over her shoulder before a diving grab to save two hits from going on the board.
Jenkins hit her second home run of the day, a three-run shot to center field in the top of the sixth, as the Blazers their deficit to two.
Needing to score at least three runs to extend the game, Hood had runners on first and second with two outs before Ashley Fourcade hit a two-run single to cut the Blazers deficit to one. But Dieter made another diving catch to end the game.
Junior Briana Pichalski earned her team-leading fourth win allowing six runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
Stevenson returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, March 23 when it travels to Penn State Harrisburg for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
