Box Score 2 UNION, N.J. - Stevenson men's volleyball sophomore Kyle Pottieger led the team with 22 kills as the 15th-ranked Mustangs finished with a 3-1 record at the Kean Invitational after a 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 victory over York (N.Y.) and a 26-24, 25-23, 25-20 win versus No. 9 Elmira Saturday at Harwood Arena.
With the win over Elmira, Stevenson (16-7) posted its second victory over a nationally-ranked team this season. The Mustangs previously defeated then-No. 7 Baruch on February 22.
In the opener against the Cardinals (16-15), the Mustangs were led by eight kills and five digs from Pottieger while junior Kyle Wisner added seven kills and three digs. Senior Austin Jacoby and junior Wesley Richardson contributed five kills each.
In the sweep of Elmira (18-7), Pottieger led Stevenson with 14 kills while Wisner had eight kills with no errors. Jacoby added seven kills and seven digs and junior David Moler totaled 35 assists and nine digs.
Senior Jon Martin edged closer to becoming the first player in school history with 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs as he finished the day with 11 kills and eight digs. He had seven kills against York and six digs versus Elmira.
Martin, who needs 14 digs and 32 kills to reach 1,000 for each, will have two-straight opportunities to accomplish the feat at home when the Mustangs hosts CVC contests against Eastern Mennonite on Friday, March 28 and Marymount (Va.) on Saturday, March 29.
