Mustangs Held to Five Hits in 3-1 Loss at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Reaching base only five times on the day, the Stevenson softball team was held to just one run in a loss at Mary Washington on Sunday. Five different players recorded one hit a piece for the Mustangs, including sophomore Molly Hoyt who also started in the circle.

Game two of the scheduled doubleheader on Sunday was canceled due to rain.

The Mustangs (1-2) got on the board first in the top of the second when senior Lindsay Kuczak doubled to left before a single from sophomore Morgan Wolfe put runners on the corners. Sophomore Tiffany Kahl would score  Kuczak with an RBI single to center.

Mary Washington (2-1) scored three runs in the fourth with three hits and a hit by pitch, resulting in a rally that included two extra base hits.

Eagle starting pitcher Hannah Otterman tossed a complete game, giving up only five hits and a run while striking out seven.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Seger accounted for the final hit for the Mustangs.

Stevenson returns to the field next Sunday, March 9 against Lourdes as the team begins an eight-game roadtrip in Clermont, Florida.
