Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Stevenson softball team concluded its eight-game spring break Florida road trip finishing 5-3 for the week as the Mustangs split a pair of games with Bowdoin and Richard Stockton Friday at National Training Center.
The Mustangs (6-5) fell to Bowdoin in the opening game, 8-4, before defeating Richard Stockton by a score of 2-1.
On the sixth pitch of the first at bat in game one, sophomore Kristen Mueller hit a home run to center field to give Stevenson a 1-0 lead. The two teams would each score a run in the first two innings.
The Polar Bears (4-1) would score four unearned fourth inning runs after totaling three-straight hits on six combined pitches with two outs.
Down 8-3 in the top of the seventh, the Mustangs loaded the bases with two outs after senior Kristen Fassler drew a walk. Senior Brianna Dieter was hit by a pitch on the ensuing pitch to score freshman Nicole Dell before the next batter flied out to end the game.
In game two, Stevenson got on the board first after a single down the right field line by junior Abbey DeFeo to score sophomore Molly Hoyt from second base.
The Ospreys (8-2) would tie the game in the top of the seventh before sophomore Tiffany Kahl turned a double play unassisted.
Dieter, who pinched hit to start the bottom of the seventh, opened the inning with a double before scoring the walk-off run on a single by Kahl.
Hoyt allowed no earned runs on seven hits in her first complete game of the season while also striking out one.
Stevenson will host a doubleheader versus local rival Hood in its home opener on Saturday, March 22. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
