Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - Starting off its eight-game Spring Break road trip, the Stevenson softball team won both of its games yesterday at Hancock Park, defeating Lourdes 7-5 in eight innings followed by a 12-1 victory over St. Lawrence.
In their first game, the Mustangs (3-2) fell behind early as the Gray Wolves took a 3-0 lead after one and a 5-2 margin heading into the fifth inning. That lead wouldn't last, as the Mustangs tied the game up in the fifth after sophomore Kristen Mueller doubled home sophomore Tiffany Kahl before scoring on a two-run homer from sophomore Molly Hoyt.
Tied at 5-5 in the top of the eighth, Stevenson and Lourdes (1-2) headed to extra innings. With senior Lindsay Kuczak placed on second and a walk issued to freshman Nicole Dell, the Mustangs scored twice in the top of the inning on a fielding error followed by an RBI ground out.
The two-run lead would hold as junior Briana Pichalski completed the game in the circle for Stevenson with a clean inning, inducing a double play pop out to end it. She totaled four innings in relief, allowing only one hit and no walks while striking out two.
Junior Stephanie Ayres reached base twice in the game with a hit and a walk while also tacking on a sacrifice fly.
In the second game, the Mustangs took control early and scored often, invoking the run rule while topping the Saints, 12-1.
Heading into the fourth with a 6-0 lead, the Mustangs scored six more after St. Lawrence (1-3) added its lone run on an RBI-single to begin the inning.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday with games against Simmons and Transylvania in Clermont beginning at 3:00 p.m.
