Box Score LANGHORNE, Pa. - Stevenson men's volleyball senior Jon Martin totaled seven kills and a team-high 11 digs while junior Kyle Wisner had five kills and four block assists as the 14th-ranked Mustangs posted a 25-21, 25-14, 27-25 victory over Cairn Wednesday at Mason Activity Center in the CVC opener for both teams.
Stevenson (7-3) improved its record to 3-0 on the road this season with its sixth-straight win over the Highlanders.
Senior Austin Jacoby added a match-high 12 kills and posted a .296 hitting percentage. Wisner did not have an error in nine attempts for a .556 hitting percentage. As a team, the Mustangs had a .202 hitting percentage while limiting Cairn to just .044 after posting 13 total blocks, including 12 block assists.
The Highlanders (4-6) had 17 total blocks, including 16 block assists, led by seven from Jeff Bishop.
Stevenson led 14-13 in the first set before a 6-1 run gave the team its largest lead at 20-14. Jacoby had two kills during the run while Cairn added to it with four errors. The Highlanders pulled within two at 22-20, but two service errors and an attack error gave the Mustangs the fourth-point victory.
Leading 17-13 in the second set, Stevenson finished on an 8-1 run behind three kills from Jacoby and one each from Wisner, Martin and sophomore Patrick Schuyler.
Cairn jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third before the Mustangs pulled within one at 8-7. From there, neither team led by more than two points, the last of which had Stevenson in front, 22-20. Back-to-back kills from Ryan Garven tied the set at 22-22 and the Mustangs fought off two set points before closing the match on kills from Jacoby and junior David Moler.
Moler finished with one kill, 30 assists, one service ace and two digs while Schuyler had four kills, three digs and two block assists. Sophomore Kyle Pottieger added two kills, three digs and three total blocks.
Garven led the Highlanders with 10 kills while Josiah Buss totaled eight kills, seven digs and four block assists. Jon Wilson had 26 assists and seven digs.
Stevenson travels to New York for the Baruch Invitational this Friday and Saturday. The Mustangs face No. 12 Stevens and No. 5 Nazareth on Friday at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m., respectively, before wrapping up against No. 7 Baruch on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
