Box Score READING, Pa. - Led by the trio of juniors Erik Fisher and Christian Roberts and sophomore Darius Walker, the Stevenson men's basketball team led by as many as 17 in the first half before holding off a second-half surge en route to a 72-64 non-conference victory at Penn State Berks Tuesday.
The Mustangs (4-1) are now 22-9 in non-conference contests under fourth-year head coach Gary Stewart and have won 19 of their last 22.
The trio of Fisher, Roberts and Walker combined for 45 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists while shooting 16-for-25 from the field (64.0 percent) and 12-of-17 from the free throw line (70.6 percent).
Fisher led the way with a career-high 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting. He also had 23 points in a 103-99 double overtime victory versus Messiah at home on Jan. 15, 2014.
Roberts, who was 9-of-11 from the free throw line, added 18 points after being held to just six versus Chicago on Sunday. He now leads the team in scoring at 16.4 points per game.
Walker did not have a great offensive night as he had just four points on 2-of-7 shooting, but he did manage 10 rebounds, nine assists, four blocks and three steals. His nine assists were the most by a Stevenson player since Chaise Lancaster had 14 in an 88-79 win at Wesley on Dec. 5, 2007.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 10-point lead in the game's first eight minutes before an 11-4 run gave them their largest lead of the game at 17 points, 39-22 with 3:00 remaining in the first half.
However, the Nittany Lions (0-4) tied the game at 60-60 on a jumper by Christian Burggraf with 7:02 to play that capped a 10-0 run.
Back-to-back baskets by Fisher and Roberts pushed Stevenson back in front by four before Berks' Baba Waples scored on a lay-up with 4:45 left. That marked the game's final field goal as the two teams finished a combined 0-for-8 with the Nittany Lions going 0-for-6.
The Mustangs did hit 8-of-10 from the free throw line over the final four-plus minutes while Penn State Berks was just 2-for-5.
Junior Chris Day finished with nine points and three rebounds while junior Sean Farr added eight points and five rebounds.
Waples led three Nittany Lions in double figures with 16 points while Burggraf had 15 and Nygel Belizaire had 12.
Stevenson heads to Rochester, New York on Saturday for the UR/Holiday Inn Aiport Tournament where the Mustangs will open against Eastern Connecticut State at 7:00 p.m. The consolation and championship games are on Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Live stats for both games can be fond here.
