Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's basketball junior Colby Giacubeno scored 20 first half points as the Mustangs shot 60.3 percent from the field en route to a 105-100 Commonwealth Conference victory over Widener Saturday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
The Mustangs (9-2, 4-0 MAC) posted 100 points for the second time this season and seventh in the program's 20-year history. The 105 points are second most in school history, eight shy of the record set on Feb. 18, 2006, a 113-68 victory over Purchase State.
Stevenson held a 60-43 halftime lead, as the team went 21-of-32 from the field, including Giacubeno connecting on 4-of-5 three-pointers.
The Mustangs held their largest lead of the game at 20 with 18:28 remaining in the second half before the Pride (7-4, 1-3 MAC) slowly cut the deficit to just two with 4:03 left.
With 3:13 remaining, Rob McPherson converted a three-point play after he was fouled on a layup attempt giving Widener its lead since the 7:07 mark of the first half.
Stevenson responded with back-to-back jumpers by sophomore Christian Roberts to push their lead back to four.
With the Pride needing to foul, the Mustangs connected on seven of their eight free throw attempts, after going 2-for-10 from the line in the half.
Junior Justin Kuntz posted his third double double of the season finishing with 19 points and 12 rebounds. He also added three steals, one block and one steal.
Roberts and senior Alfonzo Hawkins combined to go 16-for-30 from the field for 38 points while adding 12 assists, four steals and four rebounds.
For the second time this season, Stevenson had at least five players in double figures as sophomore Erik Fisher chipped in 11. The team also assisted on 22 of their 38 made baskets.
McPherson led all scorers with 31, connecting on six three-pointers. He also added 11 rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, January 8 when the travel to face Albright in a Commonwealth Conference contest beginning at 8:00 p.m. The Mustangs and Lions split their two meetings last season with each team winning on the road.
