Box Score

READING, Pa. - The sixth-seeded Stevenson softball team won their 24th victory of the season after defeating fifth-seeded Alfred before falling to top-seeded Alvernia in a walk-off walk in nine innings in the ECAC Divsion III Softball Tournament quarterfinals Sunday at Angelica Park.

The Mustangs (24-23) won a school record 24 games with a 7-4 victory over the Saxons (24-19) in the quarterfinals after resuming play due to a rainout Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 3-1 with one out in the bottom of the sixth and runners on second and third with play resumed, Alfred tied the game on a two-out two-run single by Nicole Maher.

Stevenson responded with a four-run seventh inning to reclaim the lead at 7-4. With the bases loaded, the Saxons recorded the first two outs before back-to-back singles by junior Kristen Fassler (Owings Mills, Md./Western Tech) and freshman Kaitlyn Seger (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown).

Seger finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs while freshman Kristen Mueller (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and one run.

Sophomore Briana Pichalski (Port Reading, N.J./Woodbridge) earned the victory scattering eight hits and striking out three. Freshman Molly Hoyt (Parisppany, N.J./Parisppany Hills) earned her first career save after facing two batters.

In the semifinals, Stevenson fell to the top-seeded Crusaders (37-10) in nine innings after a bases loaded walk gave the home team a walk-off victory.

The Mustangs are now 4-2 in extra-inning games this season. The team suffered only their second this season when hitting 10 or more runs, going 10-2 in those games.

Stevenson took an early 1-0 lead after an RBI-single by Hoyt to score sophomore Stephanie Ayres (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara).

Alvernia's Katie Manowski tied the game in the fourth inning on a bases loaded sacrifice fly.

The Mustangs left three runners stranded in the eighth inning as they loaded the bases but could not manage the go-ahead run.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth and the bases loaded, Shannon Grim drew a walk to score the walk-off run for the Crusaders.

Ayres finished 3-for-5 with the Mustangs lone run while freshman Tiffany Kahl (Glen Burnie, Md./Seton Keough) was 3-for-3.

Hoyt suffered the loss after allowing six hits and one run in 4.2 innings pitched.

Samantha Penk and Amanda Galanti combined to go 7-for-10 for Alvernia.

The 2013 team finished the season with a school record 24 wins en route to a 24-23 record. They made the program's first appearance in a conference championship game as well as earned the programs first postseason victory.
