CHESTER, Pa. - Stevenson softball freshman Kristen Mueller (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) totaled five hits and three RBIs to lead the Mustangs in a Commonwealth doubleheader split with Widener Saturday.
Stevenson (12-10, 4-6 MAC) dropped the opener 7-5 in a walk-off before taking game two in nine innings, 3-1.
It was the second game in as many days for the Mustangs that has gone extra-innings. They are now 2-0 this season in such games.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, led by an RBI double by freshman Molly Hoyt (Parisppany, N.J./Parisppany Hills) and a sacrafice fly by junior Kristen Fassler (Owings Mills, Md./Western Tech).
The Pride (8-14, 2-8 MAC) however, scored four unanswered runs to take a 4-2 lead.
Mueller hit her second homerun of the season in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to one before hitting a two RBI single in the fifth to give the Mustangs a 5-4 lead.
Widener responded in the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back doubles before a walk-off two RBI homerun by Christine Mattis.
Mueller went 3-for-3 with one run and three RBIs while Fassler was 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Freshman Laura Welch (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) suffered the loss after allowing four hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
In game two, Stevenson took a 1-0 lead on an RBI double by freshman Kaitlyn Seger (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) in the third inning that scored freshman Tiffany Kahl (Glen Burnie, Md./Seton Keough). Seger went 2-for-5 with one RBI.
With the game tied 1-1 in the top of the ninth, junior Lindsay Kuczak (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) scored on a fielding error before freshman Brianna Dieter (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) scored on a sacrifice fly from Kahl to give the Mustangs a 3-1 victory.
Sophomore Briana Pichalski (Port Reading, N.J./Woodbridge) earned her team leading fifth victory of the season after scattering four hits.
Stevenson returns home on Wednesday, April 10 when the host a non-conference doubleheader versus Shenandoah.
