FREDERICK, Md. - Stevenson softball freshman Molly Hoyt (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany Hills) struck out a career-high six batters en route to her third career shutout as the Mustangs split a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with Hood Saturday.
The Mustangs (17-19, 10-8 MAC) won game 1-0 before dropping game two 4-0.
An unearned run by freshman Laura Welch (Leonardtown, Md./Leaonardtown) in the fourth inning was all Stevenson needed as the Blazers (22-16, 8-10 MAC) could not manage a run on seven hits.
With two outs, freshman Abbey DeFeo (Columbia, Md./River Hill) hit a single to centerfield to advance Welch to third base, before scoring on a fielding error by the center fielder.
Both Hoyt and freshman Kristen Mueller (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) went 2-for-4, while Hoyt won her team-leading seventh game.
The Mustangs managed only two hits in game two by Hoyt and frehsman Tiffany Kahl (Glen Burnie, Md./Seton Keough).
Sophomore Briana Pichalski (Port Reading, N.J./Woodbridge) suffered the loss scattering six hits and two earned runs while striking out five.
Stevenson wraps up the regular season on Sunday, April 28 when they host Catholic in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
