Box Score 2 OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson softball sophomore Stephanie Ayres (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara) hit her first career home run to lead the Mustangs in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader split versus Arcadia Saturday at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.
The Mustangs (13-13, 6-6 MAC) took game one 6-2 before falling 9-1 in five innings in game two.
Trailing 1-0 in game one, Ayres hit a leadoff home run to left field to tie the game. Two innings later, freshman Kristen Mueller (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) tripled to score freshman Tiffany Kahl (Glen Burnie, Md./Seton Keough) to give them the 2-1 lead, a lead they would never relinquish.
The Mustangs had five extra-base hits in the game with three doubles.
Stevenson also registered 13 hits, the seventh game they have had at least ten. They had a season-high 20 hits in a 13-5 victory against Elizabethtown.
Five different players had at least two hits including Ayres who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs and Kahl who was 3-for-4 with one run and two RBIs.
Freshman Molly Hoyt (Parisppany, N.J./Parisppany Hills) went 2-for-3, sophomore Courtney Cook (Edgewood, Md./Harford Tech) was 2-for-3 with one run while sophomore Abbey DeFeo (Columbia, Md./River Hill) finished 2-for-2 with one run.
Sophomore Briana Pichalski (Port Reading, N.J./Woodbridge) earned her team leading seventh victory after scattering nine hits.
In game two, Arcadia (13-14, 5-7 MAC) totaled nine runs on twelve hits to earn the five-inning win. Jessica Wood and Leanda Helms both went 3-for-3 with three runs. Helms had five RBIs, including a three-RBI homerun in the third.
Stevenson travels to face Salisbury for a non-conference doubleheader on April 14 beginning at noon.
