Burgoyne Scores Career-High Five Goals in 17-6 Victory Over Albright

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's lacrosse sophomore Billy Burgoyne (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) totaled five and six points, both career-highs, as the third-ranked Mustangs scored 13 first-half goals en route to a 17-6 victory over Albright Saturday night at Mustang Stadium.

Stevenson (12-2, 5-0 MAC) remained unbeaten in its first season in the Commonwealth Conference while handing the Lions their first loss. The Mustangs are tied atop the conference standings with No. 18 Widener who defeated Lycoming on the road Saturday, 15-1.

Burgoyne's previous career-high was four points set earlier this season in a 22-3 win over Hood at home on March 23 when he also had a career-high three goals.

Sopohomore Pat Candon (Long Beach, N.Y./Trinity) also had a career-high six points as he posted a career-high four assists. The duo of Burgoyne and Candon accounted for 10 of the Mustangs' 17 goals, including eight of the last nine.

Stevenson scored the game's first four goals and led 6-1 after the first quarter. Junior Chris Dashiell (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) had a hand in four of the six goals as he totaled two goals and two assists. He finished the game with two goals and three assists.

The Mustangs scored the game-winning goal just 1:27 into the second quarter when Burgoyne found sophomore Mark Pannenton (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) for a man-up goal and his team-leading 36th of the season. Stevenson scored on its first four man-up opportunities and finished the game 4-for-8.

With three ground balls and three caused turnovers, junior Kyle Holechek (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola Blakefield) led a defensive effort that allowed six goals or less for the seventh time in 14 games this season.

Sophomore Kevin Cain (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) made his first career start in goal, totaling a career-high seven saves while allowing just four goals in 45 minutes. Meanwhile, senior Mark Salerno (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) totaled a career-high five saves in the game's final 6:51.

T.J. Holston led the Lions (9-2, 3-1 MAC) with three goals while Phil Potter added four assists. Jordan DiZenzo made 24 saves.

Stevenson travels to Messiah on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m., contest with the Falcons.
