Crowe Nets Game-Winner in 12-11 Overtime Victory Against No. 8 Lynchburg

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's lacrosse sophomore Michael Crowe (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) scored his 12th goal of the season 1:17 into overtime as the No. 5 Mustangs defeated No. 8 Lynchburg 12-11 Saturday night at Mustang Stadium.

Stevenson (9-1), who improves to 3-1 against Lynchburg at home, avenges a 6-3 loss to the Hornets a year ago that saw the Mustangs post their lowest goal output in eight seasons.

The Mustangs wasted no time getting on the board as senior Peter Green (Hereford, Md./Hereford) notched an unassisted tally two minutes in ending a scoreless streak of 43:58 dating back to last year's matchup.

Sophomore Mark Pannenton (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) scored his team leading 27th goal of the season 30 seconds later of a helper from senior Nick Rossi (Lutherville, Md./Towson).

Junior Chris Dashiell (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) posted goals to close the first quarter and open the second quarter to give Stevenson a 6-1 lead.

The Hornets (8-2) would run off five unanswered goals to close the half, two coming from Austin Stewart.  The Mustangs would hold Lynchburg's leading goal scorer in check for the remainder of the contest.

Coming off a 6-5 lead at halftime, senior Tyler Reid (Clinton, Conn./Xavier) ended a 18:38 goal drought for Stevenson with his 20th of the season, unassisted.  The Mustangs would outscore the Hornets 4-1 in the third quarter, capped by the 10th goal of the season from sophomore Billy Burgoyne (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) with six seconds remaining in the quarter.

Stevenson held an 11-7 lead with 5:27 remaining as freshman Dylan Muti (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) netted his second of the season.

Lynchburg forced overtime by scoring four goals in the span of three minutes, sparked by a pair of man-up goals from Aaron Murphy with 2:30 remaining in regulation.  The Hornets capitalized on their final two extra-man opportunities out of six total on the evening.

Derek Sweet scored point blank off a quick stick assist by Stewart to knot the game at 11-11 with 39 seconds to go.  Sweet would have one last chance to win the game in regulation, but fired a shot that sailed wide right from eight yards out as time expired.

The Hornets won the face-off to begin overtime, however, junior Warren Pumphrey (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) caused Max Voumard to turn the ball over 18 seconds in.

Pumphrey also caused the turnover and had the game-winning assist as the Mustangs defeated RIT in overtime by an identical 12-11 score at home on Feburary 27.

After a slashing penalty by Chris Hower, Dashiell found Crowe on the close left wing for the game-winner 11 seconds into the man-up advantage.

Lynchburg was led by Sweet who totaled six points on four goals and two assists, including the game-tying goal to force overtime, while Adam Davey tied a career-high with 19 saves.

Stevenson travels Wednesday to face in-state and former CAC rival Salisbury with opening face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.  The Sea Gulls have won four straight dating back to the 2011 CAC Championship game.
