Dieter, Mueller Highlight Mustangs' Doubleheader Sweep Versus Wilson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Stevenson softball freshman Brianna Dieter (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in game one before eight different players registered a hit in game two as the Mustangs swept a non-conference doubleheader with Wilson Tuesday at the University of Maryland's Robert E. Taylor Stadium.

The sweep snapped a three-game losing streak for Stevenson (6-6) who earned its first shutout of the season and ninth in the last two seasons. It was also the first since Apr. 14, 2012 when the Mustangs blanked Wesley, 5-0.

With no outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Dieter hit a fly ball to center field that was deep enough for freshman Molly Hoyt (Parisppany, N.J./Parisppany Hills) to tag from third and beat the throw home, breaking a scoreless tie and giving Stevenson the walk-off victory.

Sophomore Stephanie Ayres (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara) was 2-for-2 with a stolen base while Hoyt earned the win after scattering five hits and striking out four to earn her first career shutout.

In game two, the Phoenix (0-4) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI-single from Faith Ricker, but the Mustangs would respond with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, all with the bases loaded, to take a 3-1 advantage.

Stevenson continued the scoring in the third, adding 10 runs on nine hits, highlighted by five extra-base hits, including four triples, two of which came from freshman Kristen Mueller (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech). She finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs and a career-high four RBIs, all of which came in the third inning.

Freshmen Jessica Morelli (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Central) and Courtney Cook (Edgewood, Md./Harford Tech) as well as junior Lindsay Kuczak (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) all went 3-for-4 while Cook added three RBIs and Morelli had two.

Inside the circle, sophomore Briana Pichalski (Port Reading, N.J./Woodbridge) snapped a three-game losing streak, scattering five hits while striking out three en route to the five-inning victory.

Stevenson travels to Elizabethtown for a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
