Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. - With the game tied at one set apiece, the Stevenson women's volleyball team rallied for a 31-29 victory in the third en route to a 25-18, 23-25, 31-29, 25-20 victory Thursday night at Brubaker Auditorium.
With the win, the Mustangs (13-1, 4-0 MAC) moved into sole possession of first place in the Commonwealth Conference, one game ahead of Elizabethtown who is 3-0. They also improved their winning streak to 10-straight.
Senior Avery Gabbard (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) led the team with 15 kills and 10 digs while sophomore Christine Isenberg (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) added 11 kills and 10 digs.
Senior Kristen Lubeski (Bishopville, Md./Stephen Decatur) totaled a season-high 10 kills, six shy of her career-high set versus New Jersey City on Oct. 2, 2010. Sophomore Megan Miller (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Tech) had a season-high 11 kills, just two shy of her career-high set against York (Pa.) on Oct. 12, 2011. It also marked the fifth time in her career she has totaled at least 10.
Tonight's game featured 29 ties and 14 lead changes, including 24 ties and 11 lead changes in the second and third sets combined. After a seven-point victory in the opening set, the next three were decided by a total of only nine.
In the second set, Stevenson led by two on two separate occasions at 10-8 and 16-14. However, Messiah rallied to take its own two-point lead at 21-19. The Mustangs edged in front 23-22 before the Falcons scored the final three points to tie the game at 1-1.
Messiah (7-4, 2-1 MAC) jumped out to a 10-6 advantage in the third set, but Stevenson rallied to take its own four-point lead at 22-18. The Mustangs led 24-21 before they committed back-to-back errors that tied the set at 24-24.
From there, the two teams would go back and forth until Stevenson finally sealed the win on back-to-back kills by Lubeski and freshman Imani Hudson (Burke, Va./Thomas Edison).
Junior Jessica Gieselman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) finished with six kills, 48 assists and nine digs while sophomore Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) totaled a game-high 22 digs.
Lauren Rees led the Falcons with 16 kills and 18 digs.
Stevenson travels to Washington College on Saturday for a tri-match against the Shorewomen and Gettysburg.
