OWINGS MILLS, Md. – At McDonogh School on Saturday, the men's tennis team was swept by Salisbury University, 0-9, in the morning and fell to Frostburg State University, 2-7 in the afternoon.
Freshman James Bishoff (York, Pa./York Catholic) led the team posting the Mustangs' only victories of the day against Frostburg State University at No. 2 doubles and No. 2 singles. Bishoff won his singles match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. In doubles action, Bishoff teamed up with senior Nick Dunlap (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) to win at No. 2 doubles, 8-5.
Two Mustangs dropped sets in tiebreakers including senior Shawn Kelley (Weltersbach, Germany/Ramstein American) and junior Eric Belton (Millersville, Md./Old Mill). At No. 3 singles, Kelley fell in a 7-5 tiebreaker for the second set after dropping the first set 6-2. Belton lost in a 7-4 tiebreaker for the first set and dropped the second set, 6-4.
After dropping two conference matches this afternoon, the Mustangs' record drops to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Stevenson's next match is against the Spartans of York College of Pennsylvania on Monday at 3:30PM.
