TOWSON, Md. – Teaming up for the first time this season, senior Ted Cooke (Snow Hill, Md./Snow Hill) and freshman James Bishoff (York, Pa./York Catholic) led the Mustangs (4-7, 1-4 CAC) with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles and the only singles victories for the afternoon.
Cooke, playing No. 1 singles, defeated Goucher's David Spivey, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, Bishoff defeated Goucher's Nick Pelensky 6-2, 6-0.
The only other win for the Mustangs came from the No. 2 doubles team of junior Eric Belton (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) and sophomore Anthony Carle (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin). The duo combined to beat Goucher's Pat Murnin and Brett Blackman 8-2.
The Mustangs had three singles games that all went to three sets. At No. 3 singles, senior Matt Hartley (Baltimore, Md./Marriots Ridge) dropped his match 6-4, 4-6, 1-6. At No. 4 singles, Carle also fell 2-6, 6-2, 2-6. Sophomore Matthew Eyler (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) also fell in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 3-6.
Overall, the Mustangs fell short as they dropped to Goucher (2-15, 0-4 LC), 4-5 in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday.
