Box Score 2 OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson softball senior Kristin Urban (Timonium, Md./Mercy) totaled two hits, extending her hitting streak to a team and career-long eight games, but Mary Washington used strong pitching in the opener and timely offense in game two to sweep a CAC doubleheader Tuesday at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.
The Mustangs (12-18, 2-6 CAC) suffered their first loss at home since March 30, snapping a four-game winning streak.
Urban picked up a first-inning single in game one before going 1-for-3 with an RBI-single in the second as Stevenson built a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second.
After the Eagles (19-15, 7-2 CAC) scored first in the top of the first on a single by Morgan Lamon, the Mustangs tied the game in the bottom of the inning when freshman Stephanie Ayres (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara) scored on a wild pitch.
Stevenson went in front by two in the bottom of the second on two RBI-singles by Ayres and Urban.
Mary Washington got a run back in the top of the fifth on an RBI-single by Brittany Scites before tying the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth on a lead-off home run by Alecia Boykin. It was the first career home run for Boykin who entered the game with just one hit in nine at-bats this season.
Boykin is now 2-for-12 in seven appearances after finishing the game 1-for-3.
The Eagles scored the game-winning run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Scites that scored pinch runner Koah Chittty who entered for Lamon after she led off the inning with a double.
Ayres was 2-for-4 with one RBI while junior Sara DiMeglio (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) was 1-for-2 with a walk. Senior Lisa Bilski (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) was 0-for-1 with two walks.
Daniella Cunetta earned the win in relief for Mary Washington after not allowing a hit over the final 3.0 innings while striking out two.
Freshman Katie Diller (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) suffered the loss for the Mustangs after allowing four runs on 12 hits and three walks.
The Eagles snapped a four-game losing streak with an 8-2 victory in game one after Hannah Otterman allowed just two runs on six hits over seven innings while striking out nine. Brandee Adams went 3-for-4 as all nine players in the Mary Washington lineup had at least one hit.
Sophomore Lindsey Kuczak (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) was 2-for-4 while sophomore Kristen Fassler (Owings Mills, Md./Western Tech) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Freshman Briana Pichalski (Port Reading, N.J./Woodbridge) took the loss, allowing eight runs on 12 hits and three walks over 5.1 innings.
Stevenson travels to York (Pa.) for a key CAC doubleheader on Wednesday. First pitch is at 3:00 p.m. The Spartans hold a two-game lead over the Mustangs for fourth place in the CAC standings.
