Box Score LANGHORNE, Pa. - Led by 10 kills and eight digs from freshman John Crinion (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice), the Stevenson men's volleyball team snapped a nine-game losing streak against long-time rival Philadelphia Biblical with a 25-22, 25-22, 25-18 road victory Wednesday at Mason Activity Center.
The last win for the Mustangs (8-8, 2-2 CVC) against the Crimson Eagles came back on Feb. 24, 2007 when they won 3-1 in a neutral site contest at Eastern Mennonite. The last win for the team at Philadelphia Biblical was Jan. 30, 2006 when it also posted a 3-1 victory.
The long time NECVA and current Continental Volleyball Conference rivals have met 20 times since Stevenson began men's volleyball in 2003. While the Crimson Eagles lead the all-time series 14-6, the Mustangs were 5-6 against them from 2003-07, including 3-0 in 2006.
Freshman Kyle Wisner (York, Pa./Central York) added nine kills and four blocks while freshman Wesley Richardson (York, Pa./Central York) had six kills and six blocks.
As a team, Stevenson had 19 total blocks, including six from sophomore Eddy Klepper (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley).
Sophomore Adam Thatcher (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) had a game-high 15 digs while freshman David Moler (York, Pa./Central York) had 11 to go along with 27 assists. Freshman Patrick Devine (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) added nine digs.
The first set featured three ties and one lead change with the Mustangs breaking an 11-11 tie behind the serve of Moler. They would take a 13-11 advantage and never trail again.
The second set featured eight tied and three lead changes with Philadelphia Biblical (5-13, 1-3 CVC) leading the majority of the set, including as many as five at 18-13. However, Stevenson scored six of the next seven points to tie the set at 19-19 before scoring six of the final nine to take a 2-0 lead.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set and led by as many as eight as they never trailed en route to their fourth sweep in the last seven games. They have now won five of their last seven.
Stevenson begins a three-game homestand on Friday when it hosts New Jersey City beginning at 5:00 p.m., inside Owings Mills Gymnasium.
