OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson softball freshman Rebecca Biddle (Greensboro, Md./North Caroline) drove in a pair of runs while freshman Katie Diller (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) pitched a three-hit shutout as the Mustangs split a non-conference doubleheader at Catholic Thursday.
Stevenson (5-9) dropped the opener 4-0 before scoring a season-high nine runs and posting its first shutout of the season in game two, 9-0.
Diller earned her fourth win of the season and her first shutout, scattering three hits over five innings while Biddle, who was making her third career career appearance and second start, went 1-for-3 with a two-run triple, marking her first career hit and first career RBIs.
Seven different players had at least one hit for the Mustangs, led by sophomore Kristen Fassler (Owings Mills, Md./Western Tech) who was 2-for-2 with one RBI, a walk and two runs scored. Sophomore Lindsay Kuczak (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) also drove in two runs.
Stevenson broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a two-run single by Kuczak, an RBI-double by freshman Stephanie Ayres (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara) and a bases loaded walk by Fassler.
The Mustangs sealed their fifth win of the season in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs on an RBI-double by Diller, two on Biddle's triple and the last on a single to right by senior Brittany King (Bel Air, Md./Mercy).
Stevenson was 5-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
In game one, the Mustangs fell victim to a strong pitching perfomance by Erin McMakin as she allowed just two hits over seven innings while striking out five. Senior Lisa Bilski (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) had two of the team's three hits as she was 2-for-3 with a double.
Stevenson makes its long-awaited home debut on Monday, March 19 when it hosts a non-conference contest with Penn State Berks. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
