SALISBURY, Md. - The Stevenson women's volleyball team earned the program's first win in the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship as it defeated Neumann in three sets in the first round, 25-11, 25-14, 25-15 Friday at Salisbury University's Maggs Physical Activities Center.
The win was a school record 20th-straight for the Mustangs (36-4) and their 17th consecutive by a 3-0 margin. The team advances to Saturday's second round where they will face a rematch against No. 22 Eastern beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Senior Avery Gabbard (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) led Stevenson with 11 kills, four digs and four block assists. She also posted a .381 hitting percentage. Junior Christine Isenberg (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) added 10 kills while freshman Imani Hudson (Burke, Va./Thomas Edison) had six.
Senior Kristen Lubeski (Bishopville, Md./Stephen Decatur) had five kills and three total blocks as the Mustangs recorded 16 total blocks. Sophomore Megan Miller (Middletown, Del./St. Georges Tech) had six total blocks to go along with four kills and three service aces.
As a team, the Mustangs totaled 10 service aces. Miller, junior Jenna Campbell (Brookeville, Md./Good Counsel) and sophomore Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) each had three.
Junior Jessica Gieselman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) totaled 30 assists.
The Knights (23-9) were paced by Katelin Kuklentz, who had 11 kills. Cecily Scavicchio had 19 assists while Victoria Limmina added seven digs.
Stevenson defeated then-No. 19 Eastern 19-25, 25-22, 22-25, 26-24, 15-10 back on September 29 in the York College Spartan Invitational. It was the last time the Mustangs played a game that lasted longer than three sets. It was also their first win over a ranked team in school history.
The Mustangs had four players in double-digit kills, including Miller (16), Hudson (15), Gabbard (12) and Isenberg (10). Perillo and Isenberg added 39 and 25 digs, respectively.
