Ashley Beam Scores Career High Six Points In 6-0 Win Over Frostburg State

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson field hockey senior Ashley Beam (Reisterstown/North Carroll) scored a career-high six points to help the Mustangs snap a four-game losing streak with a 6-0 win versus Frostburg State in the CAC opener for both teams Wednesday at Mustang Stadium.

The win was the first for the Mustangs (3-5, 1-0 CAC) in a CAC opener since they joined the conference prior to the 2006 season.

Stevenson scored three goals in each half with Beam scoring all three of the team's goals in the second. Her previous career-high in points was five set earlier this season on September 3 with two goals and one assist.

Sophomore Leigh Willing (Princess Anne/Holly Grove Christian) tied her career-high with four points on one goal and two assists. Willing scored the game's third goal after she fired a shot from the top of the arc that was assisted by freshman Ariella Hopp (Jarrettsville/Institute of Notre Dame) off a penalty corner.

Hopp also recorded a goal off a rebound in front of the goal with just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half.

Junior Kaitlyn May (Arnold/Archbishop Spalding) tallied a point for the second-straight game after she scored the game-winner less than eight minutes into the first half.

With seven saves, junior Kelsi Zimmerman (Odenton/Arrundel) recorded her first career shutout in eight career starts.

The Mustangs outshot the Bobcats 27-9 and held an 11-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Maggie Edwards registered 13 saves for Frostburg State (1-6, 0-1 CAC).

Stevenson returns to action when they travel to Mahwah, N.J. to face No. 7 Rowan in a non-conference match-up on Saturday beginning at 6:00 p.m.
