FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Stevenson softball sophomore Sara DiMeglio (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) went 3-for-3 in game one while junior Lisa Bilski (Forest Hill/Fallston) had three hits and a double, but the Mustangs could muster only one run in dropping a CAC doubleheader to Mary Washington Tuesday at the Battleground, 3-0 and 3-1.
Stevenson (14-12, 3-7 CAC) totaled 11 hits, but left 16 runners on base while going 2-for-21 with runners in scoring position.
In the opener, the Eagles scored a run in the first and a run in the second to jump out to a 2-0 lead before adding an insurance run in the fifth. In the first, Bireet Chitty led off the inning with a triple before scoring on a fielder's choice by Morgan Lamon.
Chitty had an RBI single in the second before Katherine Preseren scored from first on a single and a Stevenson error to give Mary Washington a 3-0 lead.
The three-run advantage would be more than enough for Julianne Sweat and Nicole Black who combined on the shutout, holding Stevenson to just six hits over 7.0 innings while striking out eight.
Senior Desirae Sullivan (Severna Park/Severna Park) finished 2-for-2 with a double while Bilski was 1-for-4 with a double.
Senior Julianne Roper (Baltimore/Western Tech) suffered the loss despite scattering nine hits over 6.0 innings and allowing just two earned runs.
In game two, the Eagles (16-18, 8-2 CAC) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run homer from Kerry Busby, her second home run of the season.
Meanwhile, Danielle Cunetta, who earned the win in the circle after not allowing an earned run over 7.0 innings while striking out six, helped her own cause in the bottom of the second when she led off the inning with a double before scoring on a sacrifice bunt by Chitti to give Mary Washington a 3-0 margin.
Stevenson loaded the bases in the fourth and fifth, but could not take advantage of two Eagle errors as the team managed just one run as they finished the game 1-for-11 with runners in scoring positioin and left eight runners on base.
Roper took the loss, but allowed only five hits and two earned runs over 6.0 innings while striking out four.
Bilski finished 2-for-4 and junior Kristin Urban (Timonium/Mercy) was 2-for-3.
