Owings Mills, Md.- In their final two home games, Stevenson softball's three seniors led the way, as the Mustangs scored 17 runs and took a convincing sweep over visiting Albright on Wednesday afternoon at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.
The senior trio of Desirae Sullivan, Jessica Bandzwolek, and Julianne Roper combined for eight hits, four runs scored and five RBI. Roper also pitched two complete games, earning the victory in both while striking out seven batters, in the process of becoming Stevenson's single season strikeout leader.
With the two wins, the Mustangs end the regular season with 22 wins, second in school history behind last year's mark of 23. (?) (I thought I read that in the program. )
Stevenson got the day started quickly, scoring at least one run in the first five frames of game one. After posting two runs in the bottom of the first, back-to-back double by junior Lisa Bilski and Desirae Sullivan led to a three run second inning, putting the Mustangs up by five early on.
Roper shut down the Lions in all but the top of the fifth, picking up her __ win on the year.
Brittani Rynkowski set the table nicely for the Mustangs as the centerfielder reached base three times, coming around to score twice.
The second game saw much of the same from Stevenson, and the Mustangs slammed two homeruns in route to a lightning-shorten 8-6 win. The game was called in the top of sixth as violent storms and darkness hit the area.
Sullivan added her third double of the day, while Lisa Bilski hit her team leading fifth homerun of the year and freshman Kristin Fassler hit her first career homerun.
Once again the second inning way the key frame from Stevenson as Lindsay Kuczak doubled to centerfield to bring around Rynkowski and Kristin Urban. Kuczak came around to score on Bilski's homerun, building the Mustangs lead to 6-0.
Once again, Roper went the distance in the circle, striking out two batters while yielding six runs, picking up her school record __th win of the year and ___ of her career.
Stevenson now waits to hear about a bid to the ECAC playoffs which begin on May 14th.
