Record-Setting Day For Barthelme, Dailey in CAC Semifinal Victory

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's lacrosse senior Neal Barthelme (Towson/Dulaney) tied the school record for goals in a season while senior Jimmy Dailey (Westminster/Winters Mill) surpassed the 100-point plateau as the No. 1-ranked and top-seeded Mustangs posted a 16-7 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) Wednesday in the semifinals of the CAC Men's Lacrosse Championship.

Stevenson (16-1), who advances to its fourth consecutive CAC championship game, remained unbeaten in nine home games this season and have now won 15-straight at Caves Athletics Complex. The team is 30-3 at home since 2009.

The Mustangs will host No. 3 Salisbury for the CAC title on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first quarter and added seven more in the second to take a 10-3 halftime advantage. Eight different players scored at least one of the team's first 10 goals with Barthelme and senior Ray Witte (Annapolis/Peter and Paul) each scoring twice.

Stevenson has outscored its opponents 74-19 in the first quarter this season while holding them scoreless eight times. With seven second-quarter goals, the team has totaled 92 this season during its most productive quarter of the season.

Barthelme finished with five points on three goals and two assists, raising his season goal total to 59, tying the school single-season record set by senior Richie Ford (Baltimore/Towson) in 2008.

Barthelme, Ford and senior Jimmy Dailey (Westminster/Winters Mill) each scored three goals and for Dailey, he became the first player in school history to surpass 100 points in a single season as he now has 101 on 54 goals and 47 assists. He also increased his career total to 312 which includes a school record 152 assists.

Witte finished the game with two goals while winning 13-of-18 face-offs and totaling eight ground balls while senior Jake Stocksdale (Westminster/Winters Mill) and freshman Tony Rossi (Towson/Calvert Hall) each had a goal and an assist.

Defensively, senior Evan Douglass (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) totaled five caused turnovers while senior Kyle Menendez (Cockeysville/St. Paul's) and junior Andrew McCrumb (Elkridge/Mount Saint Joseph) had three each. Junior Ian Bolland (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) made nine saves.

J.P. Lennon and Will Bell each had two goals for the Seahawks (6-9). Stu Wheeler and Pat Simpson combined to make 15 saves.

Saturday will mark the 11th meeting all-time between Stevenson and Salisbury with eight of those contests coming in the last three seasons. The Sea Gulls lead the overall series 6-4, but the Mustangs have won four of seven since 2009.
