Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Stevenson softball team scored both of its runs as the result of two wild pitches while senior Julianne Roper (Baltimore/Western Tech) earned her first shutout victory of the season as the Mustangs edged Hood 2-0 in the second round of the CAC Softball Championship at Hood Softball Field.
Stevenson (15-15-1) avenged a doubleheader sweep suffered at the hands of the Blazers earlier this season on March 26.
For Roper, it was her career-best 11th win of the season, two shy of the single season school record held by Sarah Moelter '10. It was also Roper's 30th career win, four shy of Moelter's record. Roper allowed just four hits while striking out two.
In two starts in the conference tournament, Roper has allowed just one earned run while scattering 13 hits over 13.0 innings.
The Mustangs, who were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, scored both of their runs with two outs in the top of the third after Hood pitcher Bridgette Ringley retired seven of the first batters she faced.
Freshman Kristin Baione (Waldorf/North Point) hit a one-out single singled through the right side before junior Lisa Bilski (Forest Hill/Fallston) and sophomore Sara DiMeglio (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) each walked to lead the bases with two outs. With senior Desirae Sullivan (Severna Park/Severna Park) batting, both Baione and Bilski scored on wild pitches to put Stevenson in front 2-0.
Two of the Mustangs' four hits went for extra bases as DiMeglio and sophomore Miranda Delaney (Catonsville/Catonsville) each had doubles. Delaney's came in the seventh in a pinch-hit appearance for junior Kristin Urban (Timonium/Delaney). In four games as a pinch-hitter this season, Delaney is 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Emalie Stroup led the Blazers (6-28) by going 1-for-1 with two walks while Brianna Dyckman was 1-for-2.
Stevenson will play in the quarterfinals at Salisbury on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., against either Mary Washington, Frostburg State or York (Pa.).
