Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson softball junior Lisa Bilski (Forest Hill/Fallston) and senior Jessica Bandzwolek (Fallston/Fallston) each hit home runs as the Mustangs snapped a seven-game losing streak against York (Pa.) with a 4-3 victory in game one of a CAC doubleheader Wednesday at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.
The win was the first conference victory of the season for Stevenson (11-9, 1-4 CAC) and its first against the Spartans since Apr. 19, 2008 when the Mustangs won 4-3 in the quarterfinals of the CAC Softball Championship at Salisbury.
York (15-7, 4-1 CAC) who suffered its first conference loss and had its seven-game winning streak snapped, took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run double by Emma Erbig.
Stevenson cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by senior Desirae Sullivan (Severna Park/Severna Park) that scored freshman Lindsay Kuczak (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright).
Then, with two outs in the bottom of the second, Bilski hit her second home run of the season and the seventh of her career with a two-run shot to left to give the Mustangs a 3-2 lead before they added another run in the third on a lead-off home run by Bandzwolek.
It was the first home run of the season for Bandzwolek and the eighth of her career and proved to be the game-winner as senior Julianne Roper (Baltimore/Western Tech) struck out Michelle Barwick with runners on first and second to end a Spartans rally in the top of the seventh.
Roper allowed three runs on 10 hits while striking out four in earning her team-leading eighth victory of the season.
The Spartans were hampered by their inability to capitalize on opportunities as they left eight runners on base and were 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
Bandzwolek was 2-for-2 with one RBI while Bilski went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Sullivan, sophomore Sara DiMeglio (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) and freshman Kristin Baione (Waldorf/North Point) each had one hit in the win.
Hannah Hugel finished 3-for-4 for the Spartans while Barwick was 2-for-4 and Erbig went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Game two of Wednesday's doubleheader was suspended due to rain ni the top of the third with York leading 7-1. The game will be finished on a date yet to be determined and will be resumed from the point at which it was halted.
In the meantime, the Mustangs continue their four-game homestand on Friday when they host a CAC doubleheader with Wesley at Weinberg-Fine Stadium. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
