Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's volleyball freshman Austin Jacoby (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) totaled his third double double of the season and first since February 5 to lead the Mustangs to their sixth-straight win as they defeated Kean 25-21, 24-26, 25-13, 25-21 Saturday in a NECVA Metro Division contest at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
Stevenson (24-6, 8-4 Metro) posted 20 total blocks while 45 of the team's 46 kills came from its six starters, including 14 from Jacoby who also added 13 digs. Freshman Jon Martin (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) added 13 kills and freshman Kalani Soeda (Kaneohe, Hawaii/LeJardin Academy) had eight.
There were no lead changes in the first three sets as the Mustangs took a 2-1 lead. With the first set tied at 10-10, Stevenson used a 7-2 run to take a five-point lead before stretching it to as many as six.
In the second set, the Cougars (11-23, 4-8 Metro) led 11-3 before the Mustangs rallied to tie the game at 24-24. However, Kean tied the game at 1-1 after a kill by Steve Valhalla and a Stevenson attack error gave the Cougars a 26-24 victory.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the third set and never let it slip below four points as they cruised to a 13-point win.
The fourth set featured 10 ties and four lead changes, the last of which came at 20-20 before Stevenson scored five of the final six points to post its ninth victory in 13 games at home this season. It was also the team's 10th win 13 games that were decided in four sets.
Freshman Adam Thatcher (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) had nine digs while sophomore Kyle Diller (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) totaled three kills, 40 assists and five digs. Senior Josh Forbes (Erie, Pa./McDowell) had five kills and five block assists. Jacoby also had five total blocks.
Stevenson will now await seeding information for the 2011 NECVA Championship which will be held April 1-3 at Ramapo College.
