Box Score 2 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Led by 62 assists, 20 digs and five blocks from sophomore Kyle Diller (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg), the Stevenson men's volleyball team posted two victories at the Wildcats Invitational hosted by Johnson & Wales Friday at the Harborside Recreation Center, setting a new school record for wins in a season.
The Mustangs (21-6) posted wins over Lasell and the City College of New York, each for the second time this season, defeating the Lasers 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-18 before beating CCNY 25-13, 25-22, 18-25, 25-20.
With 21 wins, Stevenson surpassed the previous record set by the 2008 team that went 20-13 en route to the finals of the ECAC Division III South Championship. Over the last three seasons, the team has totaled a 52-34 record while posting its first two 20-win seasons.
Against Lasell (15-13), freshman Austin Jacoby (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) led the way with 18 kills and five digs while Diller had 33 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Kalani Soeda (Kaneohe, Hawaii/LeJardin Academy) had eight kills and four total blocks and freshman Adam Thatcher (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) had a game-high 12 digs.
Spencer Parker posted a double double for the Lasers with 10 kills and 10 digs and Andrew Glenn had 38 assists and nine digs.
In the win against CCNY (11-19), Soeda had a team-high 12 kills and Diller added 29 assists, 10 digs and five blocks.
Matthew Ng had 13 kills for the Beavers while Brian Yik Lim posted 35 assists and eight digs.
Stevenson wraps up competition at the two-day Wildcats Invitational on Saturday with games versus NECVA Metro Division rival New Jersey City and host Johnson & Wales beginning at 10:00 a.m.
