Steiner Leads Women's Basketball in 68-54 Loss at St. Mary's (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Stevenson women's basketball senior Kristen Steiner (Forest Hill/Fallston) led the team with 14 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocks, all game-highs, but the Mustangs could not overcome a 12-point halftime deficit as they dropped their 13th-straight road game, 68-54 Saturday at O'Brien ARC Arena.

Stevenson (1-15, 0-9 CAC), who also lost its 17th consecutive conference game, trailed 35-23 at halftime after shooting just 30.4 percent from the floor in the first half, going 7-for-23.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks were 12-for-26 from the field for 46.2 percent and 11-for-15 from the free throw line. They also scored 15 points off turnovers.

The Mustangs trailed by four on two separate occassions following two free throws by junior Katelyne Briggs (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) with 13:36 remaining in the opening half and a three-pointer by sophomore Sam Murray (Reisterstown/St. Paul's) with 12:11 left.

However, an 11-2 run gave St. Mary's a 13-point lead with 7:18 to play and the hosts maintained a 12-point advantage at the half.

The Seahawks (9-8, 5-4 CAC) led by as many as 19 in the second half and never let the lead slip below 10 as they moved one game above .500 at 9-8 overall, 5-4 in the CAC and 6-5 at home.

Shana Lewis and Taylor Petrisko each had 11 for St. Mary's while Lewis added a team-high five rebounds and five steals. Raven Owens had nine points, including the team's lone three-pointer, to go along with four assists while Jasmine Jones added six points and four assists.

Steiner totaled her third double double this season and the 11th of her career. Senior JaQuelia Conley (Columbia/Montrose Christian) had 10 points and a career-high three assists. Freshman Alissa Chambliss (Hanover/Meade) added eight points.

Stevenson returns to action on Monday when it hosts a non-conference contest with Alvernia beginning at 6:00 p.m.
