SALISBURY, Md. - Nine different players scored
one goal each while another two combined for four assists as the
No. 2-ranked Salisbury field hockey rebounded from its loss to No.
1 Messiah on Saturday with a 9-0 victory over Stevenson Wednesday
at Sea Gull Stadium.
The Sea Gulls (6-1, 2-0 CAC) scored seven first half goals as
they out shot the Mustangs 20-0 and held a 9-0 advantage in penalty
corners.
Katy Lamboni scored the game-winner just 2:01 into
the game off an assist from Erica Henderson
beforeKandice Hancock scored only 1:41
later on a penaly stroke to give Salisbury a 2-0 lead just under
four minutes in.
Four of the Sea Gull scorers tallied their first
goal of the season, including Alison Bloodsworth and
Kelly McIntyre who each had first half goals.
McIntyre's came just 16 seconds before the half to give Salisbury a
7-0 lead at halftime.
Danielle Lehman and Camile
Walker also netted their first goals of the season in the second
half, both on assists from Hannah
Castelow, to provide the final margin of victory.
Stevenson (4-5, 0-2 CAC) played much better in the
second half, equaling the number of shots taken by the Sea Gulls at
5-5 while totaling three penalty corners compared to six for
Salisbury.
Senior Kara Zimmerman
(Odenton/Seton), who entered the game ranked fourth in the
nation among active players in career saves and minutes played,
added eight more saves in the first half Wednesday before giving
way to sophomore Kelsi Zimmerman
(Odenton/Seton) who made one save in the
second.
Kara now has 472 career saves in 4,200 minutes in
four seasons at Stevenson from 2007-10.
Senior Christie Greer (Bel
Air/Bel Air) also added one defensive save for the
Mustangs.
Stevenson returns home where it will host its fourth
nationally ranked opponent in the last five games when it takes on
No. 13 Rowan Saturday at Caves Athletics Complex beginning at 1:00
p.m.
