OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Sophomore Lisa Bilski (Forest
Hill/Fallston) went 4-for-5 with one RBI while freshman
Carianne
Sullivan (Westminster/Westminster) was 3-for-5 with
two RBIs as Stevenson dropped game one of a doubleheader to Hood,
6-5 in nine innings before losing game two, 8-0 in five innings
Friday at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.
As a result, the Mustangs (14-12, 5-7 CAC) will be the
fifth-seed in next week's CAC Softball Championship and will head
to second-seeded York (Pa.) on Tuesday, April 13 at 3:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, Hood (13-13, 8-4 CAC) earned the third-seed and will
host Mary Washington Tuesday.
The Blazers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first of game one
before Stevenson added a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI
single by junior Desirae
Sullivan (Severna Park/Severna Park).
Hood added another run in the second, but the Mustangs added two
on an RBI single by Carianne Sulivan and RBI double by Bilski to
cut the Blazer lead to 4-3.
After Hood increased the lead to two with a run in the fourth,
Stevenson tied the game and forced extra innings with a run in the
fifth and sixth. Bilski led off the fifth with a triple and scored
on an RBI single by junior Jessica Bandzwolek (Fallston/Fallston) before
junior Kelly Dorsey
(Baltimore/Catonsville) tied the game on a single by Carianne
Sullivan in the sixth.
With the game tied at 5-5, neither team could get the go-ahead
run in the eighth despite moving a runner to third with one out
using the international tiebreaker.
However, Hood would capitalize in the ninth when Erin McNally
drove in Kandie Glenn with a double down the left field line.
McNally advanced to third on a wild pitch with one out, but the
Blazers couldn't add their total as junior Julianne Roper
(Baltimore/Western Tech) retired the next two batters she
faced.
The Mustangs missed their opportunity to tie the game in the
bottom of the ninth after Carianne
Sullivan was tagged out at third on a fielder's choice by Desirae
Sullivan. The out was key for the Blazers as Bandzwolek
followed with a single to left that would have tied the game.
Bandzwolek finished the game 2-for-5 with one RBI while Roper
suffered her fourth loss after allowing five earned runs on 14 hits
over nine innings.
Jordan Wolford earned her second-straight win in the circle in
game two as Hood scored six runs over the first two innings,
highlighted by a three-run homer to left by Wolford in the first.
Wolford and Bridgette Ringley combined to limit Stevenson to
just two hits over five innings while holding the Mustangs
scoreless for the fourth time in the last 12 games.
Senior Sarah Moelter
(Timonium/Dulaney) and freshman Elizabeth Moul
(Hanover, Pa./Southwestern) each had one hit for Stevenson
while Moelter took the loss in the circle, allowing eight runs on
nine hits in five innings.
Stevenson heads to Franklin & Marshall for a non-conference
doubleheader with the Diplomats on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
