Game 1 | Game
2
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Stevenson softball junior
Jessica Bandzwolek (Fallston/Fallston) went
4-for-5 with a walk and extended her hitting streak to a
season-high four games, but the Mustangs managed only two runs on
nine hits in dropping both games of a non-conference doubleheader
at Catholic Wednesday, 7-1 and 6-1.
The sweep snaps a three-game win streak for Stevenson (14-10)
who had won four of its last five.
The Mustangs were victim to strong pitching performances from
the Cardinals' Stephanie Clemente and Stacie Goddard who combined
to allow just six hits and one run over nine innings while striking
out seven. The duo did not surrender an earned run.
Clemente earned her seventh win of the season after holding
Stevenson to just two hits and striking out three in the opener.
Meanwhile, Goddard went 1-for-3 with a two-run single as part of a
four-run third that would give Catholic all the runs it would need.
The Mustangs greatest threat came in the top of the fourth with
runners on first and second and only one out. Sophomore
Lisa Bilski (Forest Hill/Fallston) scored on an
error after a lead-off single, but that would be all the team would
get as Clemente got the next two batters to ground out and end the
threat.
Bandzwolek finished 2-for-2 while Bilski and freshman
Sara DiMeglio (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) each
were 1-for-3.
Junior Desirae Sullivan (Severna Park/Severna
Park) suffered her third loss in four decisions after
allowing 13 hits and seven runs, only five of which were earned.
Goddard picked up her team-leading eighth win in game two after
surrendering just four hits and striking out four while the
Cardinals (18-8) scored all six of their runs in the bottom of the
first against Mustang senior Sarah Moelter
(Timonium/Dulaney).
Taylor Stockinger had a two-run double while Katie Ann Trotta
drove in two with a single as Catholic scored six runs on only four
hits with one error.
After getting through the first, Moelter allowed just one hit
while holding the Cardinals scoreless over the final five innings.
Stevenson scored its lone run, unearned, on a double by Desirae
Sullivan that scored freshman Carianne Sullivan
(Westminster/Westminster) after she reached on an error.
Bandzwolek was 2-for-3 while both Sullivans had the other two.
Stevenson hosts a key CAC doubleheader with Hood on Friday at
Weinberg-Fine Stadium beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Blazers and Mary
Washington hold just a one-game lead over the Mustangs for third
place in the conference standings.
