OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's lacrosse senior Steve Kazimer (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) and junior Richie Ford (Baltimore/Towson) each totaled eight points to lead 14 different scorers for the No. 3-ranked Mustangs as they defeated York (Pa.) 24-6 Thursday at Caves Athletics Complex.

The win secured the second-seed for Stevenson (14-1, 6-1 CAC) in the 2010 CAC Men's Lacrosse Championship and was its 26th win in 29 career conference games since joining the CAC prior to the 2007 season.

The Mustangs scored 16 of their 24 goals in the first half as they led 16-3 at halftime after outshooting the Spartans (7-8, 4-3 CAC) 31-16 and winning 17-of-31 face-offs.

Stevenson finished the game winning 26-of-34 face-offs and holding a 35-20 edge in ground balls. Junior Ray Witte (Annapolis/St. Peter and Paul) won 14-of-16 face-offs and had seven ground balls, increasing his season total to 121, the third-highest single-season total in school history and only 25 short of Mark Krastel's school record in 1998.

The Mustangs scored 10 goals in the second quarter which were the most in a single quarter for the team this season. Kazimer and Ford had a hand in eight of the 10 goals, combining to score seven while Kazimer assisted junior Neal Barthelme (Towson/Dulaney) on the final goal of the quarter with 1:43 remaining.

The goal was Barthelme's fourth of the first half, tying his career-high for a single game. He also added two second half assists to finish with a career-high six points. Over his last three games, Barthelme has totaled 15 points which includes 12 goals.

All eight of Stevenson's second half goals were scored by a different player, including junior Mark Dwyer (Nantucket, Mass./Nantucket) who netted the first of his career just 53 seconds into the start of the fourth quarter.

Junior Ryan Bragg (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) also picked up his first goal of the season in the fourth, capping the scoring with 5:14 left. It was his fifth career tally.

Sophomore Ian Bolland (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) picked up his second career win in as many starts, finishing with six first half saves, five of which came in the second quarter. Meanwhile, senior Mike Gustowarow (Annapolis/DeMatha) finished with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Ryan McNicholas and Ryan Topper each finished with two goals to lead the Spartans while Chris Collins and Michael Karwoski each had five saves.

As a result of its second seed in the conference tournament, Stevenson receives a first round bye and will host the winner of fifth-seeded Mary Washington and fourth-seeded York (Pa.) in the semifinals next Wednesday, April 21 at Caves Athletics Complex at 4:00 p.m.
