OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's lacrosse
junior Megan Weiss
(Odenton/Seton) scored a career-high seven points,
totaling four goals and three assists, as the No. 17-ranked
Mustangs snapped a three-game losing streak with a 17-6 CAC victory
over Hood Monday afternoon at Caves Athletics Complex.
Stevenson (9-5, 4-2 CAC) is now just one win shy of three
consecutive 10-win seasons for the first time in school history.
Weiss tied her career for points while setting a new career-high
in assists. She also totaled seven points with six goals in an 18-5
win over Lynchburg at home on Apr. 5, 2009.
The Mustangs scored the game's first seven goals, including two
each from Weiss, senior Lauren Zegowitz
(Gaithersburg/Damascus) and junior Lisa Baker
(Westminster/Westminster), to take a 7-0 lead with 12:19
remaining in the first half.
Baker finished with five points on three goals and two
assists and was one of four players who scored at least three
goals for Stevenson, including senior Brittany Connelly
(Catonsville/Catonsville) who set a new career-high with
three.
The Mustangs led 9-2 at halftime after holding a 17-6 edge in
shots and a 12-7 margin in ground balls. Meanwhile, the Blazers
(4-10, 0-7 CAC) committed 18 turnovers and were just 4-of-11 on
clears.
Sophomore Spencer Kraus (Mt. Airy/South
Carroll) finished with two goals and two assists, totaling
one and one in each half, while sophomore Samantha Parker
(New Market/Linganore) had two assists.
Sophomore Megan Najewicz (Baltimore/Perry Hall)
also had a second half goal for her first career point.
Defensively, sophomore Jenny Schroeder (Severna
Park/Severna Park) totaled three saves before giving way
to freshman Rachel Hill (Parkton/Hereford) who
made her her third appearance of the season.
As a team, Stevenson totaled 16 caused turnovers led by three
each from Baker and sophomore Kirstin Gancarz
(Crownsville/Old Mill). A total of 10 players had at least
one.
Katie Vu led Hood with three points on two goals and one assist.
Sam Liptrap finished with 12 saves.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday when it hosts a first
round game in the 2010 CAC Women's Lacrosse Championship.
