OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's lacrosse
sophomore Ian Bolland (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain
Lakes) totaled a career-high 16 saves, 13 of which came in
the second half, including nine in the fourth quarter as the No.
3-ranked Mustangs won their third-straight, 13-10 over St. Mary's
(Md.) Tuesday at Caves Athletics Complex.
Bolland earned his first career win in his fourth career
appearance and first career start. He headlined a defensive effort
that held the Seahawks to just 3-of-11 on extra-man opportunities,
including 0-for-4 in the fourth quarter.
With the Mustangs (13-1, 5-1 CAC) leading 13-9 with 7:04
remaining in the fourth quarter, they were whistled for three
simultaneous slashing penalties, giving St. Mary's an commanding
6-on-3 advantage for one minute.
However, due to the work of seniors Cory Baldwin
(Baltimore/Calvert Hall) and Mike Gustowarow
(Annapolis/DeMatha) and junior Ian Hart
(Swarthmore, Pa./Ridley), Stevenson killed off the
three-man advantage, holding the Seahawks to just three shots, one
of which was saved by Bolland.
Offensively, junior Richie Ford
(Baltimore/Towson) led the way with two goals and two
assists while junior Neal Barthelme
(Towson/Dulaney) added three goals. Over his last two
games, Barthelme has totaled seven goals after posting 11 in his
previous 12 contests.
Junior Jimmy Dailey
(Westminster/Winters Mill) also added three points with
two goals and one assist.
The game was tied at 4-4 at the end of the first quarter after
the teams played a statistically even first 15 minutes.
Stevenson distanced itself from St. Mary's after outscoring the
Seahawks 6-2 in the second quarter to hold a 10-6 halftime lead.
After the teams combined for 16 first half goals, the two
totaled just seven in the second despite 11 combined extra-man
opportunities. The Mustangs were 1-for-3 on the man-up while St.
Mary's was just 2-for-6.
Dennis Rosson led the Seahawks (7-5, 4-2 CAC) with six points
and five goals while Patrick Mull added four assists and Ryan
Alexander had one goal and two assists. Stu Wheeler finished with
nine saves.
Stevenson concludes its CAC schedule when it hosts York (Pa.) on
Thursday beginning at 4:00 p.m.
