STEVENSON, Md. - Stevenson men's tennis junior
Randy Speck (Glen Burnie/Old Mill) picked up his
second win of the season, including his first at No. 4 singles to
highlight the Mustangs' first win of the season, 9-0 over Penn
State Abington at home on Saturday.
Five other Mustangs (1-3) picked up their first singles win of
the season, highlighted by the first career win for freshman
Nick Dunlap (Baltimore/Calvert Hall), while all
three of the team's doubles pairings all won their season debuts.
Junior Kevin Stamm (Leonardtown/Leonardtown)
and Dunlap each battled through tiebreakers to pick up their first
wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
At No. 2 doubles, the team of Speck and Stamm improved their
record to 2-1 all-time with an 8-5 decision over the Nittany Lions'
Matthew Stainthorpe and Artem Busorgina. The team also won its only
pairing last season versus McDaniel on April 2.
Stevenson returns to action on Sunday, March 21 when it hosts
Shenandoah as part of the USTA's Campus Kids Day. The Mustangs and
Hornets have split the last two meetings with Shenandoah winning
6-3 at home last season and the Mustangs prevailing 7-0 at home in
2008.
