ARNOLD, Md. - Stevenson softball junior
transfer Desirae Sullivan (Severna Park/Severna
Park) went 7-for-8 with two home runs and nine RBIs to
lead the Mustangs to their third-straight win as they swept a
doubleheader with Maine-Presque Isle Tuesday at Anne Arundel
Community College, 10-1 and 14-5.
Sullivan went 4-for-4 with a grand slam, three-run homer and
seven RBIs in game two to tie a school record for RBIs and home
runs in a single game.
Lorin McKee also drove in seven runs versus Mt. Aloysius on Mar.
13, 2007 while sophomore Lauren Davis
(Mechanicsville/Chopticon) homered twice against Wells on
Mar. 17, 2009.
Through 11 games, Sullivan leads the team with 22 hits, six
doubles, three home runs and 20 RBIs which is already just 18 shy
of the school's single-season record.
Eight different players had at least one hit for Stevenson (9-2)
in game one. Sullivan was 3-for-4 with two RBIs while sophomore
Lisa Bilski (Forest Hill/Fallston) and freshman
Sarah DiMeglio (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) were
each 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when the
Mustangs plated three runs on an RBI double from Bilski, RBI single
by Sullivan and an RBI ground out by senior Sarah Moelter
(Timonium/Dulaney).
Stevenson added three more in the fourth before scoring four in
the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double by DiMeglio, to end the
game.
Moelter remained unbeaten in the circle this season, picking up
her fourth win after allowing just four hits and one earned run
while striking out three over five innings.
In game two, Sullivan, Davis and senior Stacey Rouse
(Catonsville/Mount de Sales) combined to drive in 12 of
Stevenson's 14 runs. In addition to Sullivan's school record seven
RBIs, Davis went 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Rouse brought in two
runs without a hit, drawing a walk and getting hit by a pitch, both
with the bases loaded.
The Mustangs scored at least three runs in each of their four
offensive innings, including a first inning grand slam by Sullivan.
The team also scored four in the second before Sullivan added a
three-run homer in the third to increase Stevenson's lead to 11-0.
Junior Julianne Roper (Baltimore/Eastern Tech)
won her fourth-straight decision and fifth overall after scattering
six hits and allowing only two earned runs over five innings.
Stevenson travels to CAC rival York (Pa.) on Wednesday for a
doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
