Women's Basketball Suffers Second-Straight Overtime Loss at Home

Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Jasmine Jones finished with a game-high 22 points, including the game-winning three-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining in overtime to give the St. Mary's (Md.) women's basketball team its first road win and first CAC victory, 61-58 over Stevenson Saturday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.

The loss was the third at home for the Mustangs (0-6, 0-3 CAC) and second-straight in overtime. They have lost 14 in-a-row overall and seven consecutive at home.

Jones also forced overtime by hitting two free throws with 11 seconds left in the second half to tie the game at 51-51 and scored five of the Seahawks' 10 points in overtime.

St. Mary's scored the first five points in the extra period and led 56-51 with 4:03 remaining before Stevenson responded with a 7-2 run to tie the game for the fifth time at 58-58.

Sophomore Rayshell Parker (Hanover/Fort Meade) scored the final three points from the free throw line with 14 seconds left after she was fouled on a three-point attempt by Sophie Pruden.

Parker finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds for her second career double double and first since last season when she had 11 points and 15 rebounds at Wesley on Jan. 18, 2010.

Senior JaQuelia Conley (Columbia/Montrose Christian) matched Jones with a season-high 22 points in 43 minutes. She totaled 12 of the Mustangs' 20 second half points.

Senior Kristen Steiner (Forest Hill/Fallston) had nine points and 19 rebounds, one shy of her second 20-rebound game this season. She now has 615 career rebounds, becoming the fifth player in school history with at least 600 and is 41 behind Nancy Zentz for fourth on the all-time list.

Sophomore Sam Murray (Reisterstown/St. Paul's) had six points, four rebounds, four assists and three blocks in her first start of the season.

The Stevenson starters accounted for 54 of the team's 58 points as junior Daniela Poss (Brookeville/Good Counsel) and freshman Nikelle Kruger (Anchorage, Ak./Lumen Christi) each had two off the bench.

Jones, who added six rebounds, four assists and four steals, led three Seahawks in double figures. Pui Sham and Jamie Roberts each had 12 points.

After a break for final exams, Stevenson will return to action on Wednesday, December 14 at Wesley. Game time is at 6:00 p.m.
