FROSTBURG, Md. - Following a scoreless first
half, the Stevenson field hockey team erupted for four second half
goals, including three in a span of only 4:33, to post its third
win out of the last five with a 4-0 shutout on the road at Frosburg
State in a key CAC contest at Bobcat Stadium Tuesday evening.
The win was the fourth in seven road contests this season for
Stevenson (7-8, 2-3 CAC) who is now just three wins shy of the
school record for wins in a season. It also moves the team into
sole possession of the sixth and final spot in the CAC Field Hockey
Championship with two conference games remaining.
All four Mustang goals came off the sticks of seniors
Katelyn Manocheh (Timonium/Maryvale Prep) and
Jennifer Sauers (Baltimore/Perry Hall) as each
finished with two in alternating fashion.
Manochech had a hand in all three of the team's goals to start
the second half, scoring the first unassisted with 29:40 remaining
before finding Sauers for the second just 1:08 later and then
ending the run with her second of the game and team-leading seventh
of the season with 25:07 left.
Sauers then capped the scoring with 16:57 to play when she
tallied her second of the game and third of the season on a feed
from freshman Leah Warner
(Pasadena/Northeast).
Tuesday marked the third multi-game in 15 games this season for
Manocheh while Sauers earned the second of her career and first
since Oct. 24, 2007 when she had both goals in a 2-1 win at
Goucher.
The game was pretty even statistically with Stevenson totaling a
season-high 17 penalty corners.
Senior Kara Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) was
credited with nine saves, earning her third shutout of the season
and the ninth of her career while senior Christie Greer
(Bel Air/Bel Air) had one defensive save.
Maggie Edwards had five saves for the Bobcats (3-13, 1-4
CAC).
Stevenson returns home where it will face CAC rival Wesley on
Friday in the first of four home games to conclude the 2010 regular
season. Game time is at 3:00 p.m.
